12V Battery Monitor Board
This little 12V battery monitor board is quite a lifesaver! This board has a relay with normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO) contacts, which is used to trigger a larger relay or contactor to power on a DC/DC converter. This will essentially charge your 12V starter battery from your HV pack when needed. This is necessary as most EV conversions now have critical devices such as a BMS that must always have 12V power, and slowly drain it when the car is off.
Relay is rated for 7A as 12VDC or 120VAC. The relay will trigger at a programmable voltage threshold specified by the user, and will stay engaged for the specified duration. We have now advanced to the Series 2 12V monitor system, the linear voltage regulator was removed and replaced by an external DC/DC converter to increase efficiency.
If none is specified, default will be shipped with a voltage threshold of 12.5V and stay engaged for 3 min.
Installation is simple - connect 12V battery + and GND to the terminals marked on the board. The yellow wire needs to be connected to "OUT+". "OUT-" and "IN-" should both be connected to GND of the vehicle. "IN+" is connected to +12V of the battery. The relay output screw terminals are on the board as marked (NO, C, NC). The DC/DC converter is kept separate so that the user has more flexibility with mounting of the boards. NOTE: Please verify with a multimeter that the small DC/DC converter outputs exactly 5V between "OUT+" and "OUT-" terminals. Output voltage can be ajusted via screw on blue pot. Boards should be mounted and kept in a dry and secure location.
